Designing health apps older adults and caregivers can actually use

May 1, 2026 · 6 min read

Elderly care products fail on legibility, error recovery and the caregiver relationship far more often than on features.

There are two users, always

Elderly healthcare app development is really caregiver software. The person holding the phone half the time is an adult child two states away, and the product has to serve both without either feeling surveilled or sidelined.

What we change

Small, unglamorous decisions carry adoption here.

  • Dynamic Type support to the largest sizes, tested — not merely enabled
  • Targets no smaller than 48pt, with generous spacing between destructive and safe actions
  • Every error recoverable in one step, with plain language and no jargon
  • Explicit, revocable caregiver permissions the patient controls
  • A phone-call path that never disappears behind a chat widget
