Product strategy
A healthcare startup MVP in twelve weeks, scoped honestly
June 19, 2026 · 6 min read
What a first release should and should not contain when you are a digital health startup with one funding runway to prove the thesis.
Prove one loop
Startups looking for a healthcare app development company usually arrive with a roadmap for three products. A twelve-week build funds one loop end to end: a patient does a thing, a clinician responds, and both come back tomorrow.
In scope
This is a first release that can carry real patients and still be extended later.
- Auth with biometric unlock and a real session policy
- The single core loop, instrumented so you can see where it breaks
- A compliance-shaped backend — PHI boundary, audit trail, BAA-covered vendors
- A clinician-side surface, even a plain one; patient-only MVPs die
Out of scope, deliberately
Billing, multi-tenant white labeling, in-app video, and a full EHR write path. Each of these is a quarter of work that adds no evidence to your thesis. Defer them with a written note about what would trigger building them.
